On the 23 February 2008 at Rydges Capital Hill we had our first function. Here are a few kind words from one of our guests.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The stars were REACHED!!!.... My heart was touched and more than anything my awareness of this disease has grown a little bit more and the understanding of the need for more PUMPS!!..
What a great night smiles all round were the appetizers along with a few happy tears as those most dear and talented dancers and the sounds of such a tiny girl uplifting us with her singing up to the stars and warming our hearts.By the end of these we all knew what we were there for...We were then graced with Brookes rendition of "Amazing Grace" to get the night started..wow!!!!...could it get any better??? I challenged anyone whose eyes were not as sparkling as mine were. And shame on you if you didn't put a coin in that adorable Brookes hat!!!! ha ha ha (what a smile)
It did get better.... ONE brand knew PUMP was donated... before the night really got going and a PUMP already available to some child in need... Makes your heart jump doesn't it....
A meal fit for the special people that attended was perfectly presented and plates were appropriately collected empty!!!!..along with many empty glasses....
All in all a great night was had by all.... In a time where it seems that we all seem to have our hands in our pockets for so many reasons whether it is all the phone calls we regularly get asking for help for so many worthy causes to many to list or just in our general day to day living and surrounding issues that is in need of different financial assistance.. In the end all you can say is...Every little bit heaps!!!! So no matter what your contribution was to the First "REACH FOR THE STARS" ...Those of us who were there I hope took home the gift of compassion and a better understanding I hope of the need for these PUMPS!!!!and I personally will be in support 100%.
The work that goes into getting these kind of functions off the ground is enormous and in most cases is done by such a small group of people.. as is the case in this....Sonia Downie is on a mission and I am so proud of the effort and commitment she and her small support group have done. These kinds of people in our world today are the people that... "MAKE A DIFFERENCE" and will be the people that will "Make their presence Count"
In finishing I look forward to the walk later on in the year and the breakfast in November and I am in the process of putting some feed back around my small country town as I found out on the weekend that in my small community of YOUNG we have 3 or 4 known children with "Type One" diabetes and I would hope that we too can "Come to the Party" so to speak and have a fundraiser to raise money for these most needed Pumps for these most needy children and babies...
Congratulations again Sonia and
Emma
who was helping you every step of the way on Saturday night and to all who know who you are behind the scenes as well...Well done and keep up the grand work!!!!
Cheers hugs and smiles....Debbie Oliver..xxoo |
